Synergetic Approach for the Harbor Sediment Management: The Damietta Harbor (Egypt) Case Study

Dredged material dumping is one of the most important locally generated problems to be considered in harbors’ management. The present work was carried out assess physical and particle size characteristics seabed core sediments Damietta harbor basin offshore area, with main aim proposing a synergetic approach sediment In addition tosuggestinga new site that will solve problem redispersing dumped re-shoaling entrance. To achieve study objectives, thirty-three samples were collected from area during years 2007 2017, satellite image obtained year 2022. Sediments subjected grain analysis, total solids determination, estimation carbonate organic matter contents, marine bottom communities’ analysis. Results show mean ranged between 4.75-7.99 Ø (silt). Carbonate content 0.41 3.13% reached value 2.95%. These results would help assessing dredged this middle shelf off promontory. Management measures proposed by consider deepening, extension beneficial use sediment. Moreover, bypassing supposed mitigate scour acting as feeder adjacent shorelines littoral cell area.
